Solitary Confinement for being new creature
Later, I was again persecuted for being Paul Revere at another jail. The
jailers kept calling me by my old state name. If I were to respond to that name,
I would acknowledge my old life and my old name. I elected not to respond.
Suddenly, two deputies appeared at the end of my bunk and one of them was
signaling me to "roll up."
"Excuse me, what seems to be the problem?"
"You have been disobedient. You haven’t been responding when we call you."
"If you would have called me, I would have responded but I never heard my
name."
"Well, we’re not going to play any more games. You’re going to solitary
confinement."
I went to solitary confinement, a cubicle of concrete, approximately seven
feet by four feet with only a bunk, a toilet and a water fountain. I spent three
days in solitary confinement because the jailers refused to acknowledge my
God-given name.
| The Bible records not only new names revealed by God, but also
new names given by rulers of men. When Daniel and his companions stood
before the court of Babylon, the chief of the eunuchs gave the Hebrews
new names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach;
to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego (Daniel 1:7). |
