If God reveals it, that settles it

In the Scripture, at Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do people say I am?" They told him who men thought He was. Then Christ asked, "Who do you say that I am?" And Peter said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said, "Well, hallelujah! No man revealed this to you. You received it from the Father, not from men."

Because of this revelation by Peter, who had been known as Simon, Jesus bestowed on him the new name of Peter, which means "rock." Christ went on to say that upon this rock, or foundation, He would build His Church. He was saying, "My Church is going to be founded on the principle that if God reveals it to you, it is settled. No body of men, no court of law, is going to change what God reveals."

The above scripture provides two instances illustrating that God’s revelation is the foundation by which His Church is built. Peter’s name came by revelation, as did the knowledge of who the Son of Man is. If God reveals that you are to be known by a new name, it is settled. The name you receive from God is yours because God gave it to you. Your name is not a matter to be disputed among men. The foundation of Christ’s Church is believing in what God has revealed, not in what men say. Therefore, if anyone is to take on a new name, they are not to receive it from men. They are to wait patiently upon the Father to reveal it and upon that foundation establish their new name. And they shall grow as a new creature under the nurturing of God, not the nurturing of men.
