No compromise with Caesar

Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. Mark 12:17

The trouble we are having today is that the state wants to rule over everything. They know the principle of rendering to Caesar. For something to be Caesar’s, Caesar must create it. When we register a name with Caesar (the state), Caesar effectively creates our name. Because they created it, they regulate it and the body attached to the name.

The situation we are in is similar to that of the early Christians. According to the following study by Herbert Workman, during the first few centuries of Christianity, Rome also had the attitude of wanting to regulate every area of life through registration and licensing. Christ’s followers responded by not registering with Caesar. If we understand the early Christians’ position of separating from Caesar, we will be better equipped to understand what we must do.
